Student Outreach
Presentation
The Yamato Drummers
October 7, 2007
The adrenaline
rush filling the Cailloux Theater with 834
youth members of the community brought an
all-time high to the excitement, energy and
sheer spiritedness of the presence of the
Yamato Drummers of Japan. The focus of the
834 sets of eyes on the numerous drums on
the stage representing the traditional taiko
drumming became intensely focused on the ten
artists that swung around 50 pound drums
like they were a 5-pound bag of potatoes.
Students in attendance were from: Kerrville
ISD, Hill Country Youth Ranch, Medina
Children’s Home, Notre Dame, Our Lady of the
Hills Catholic High School, Art2Heart, The
Doyle Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters,
Grace Christian, Fredericksburg Christian,
Ambleside, Geneve School of Boerne, and Hill
Country Home Schoolers.
The Tivy
Drumline “jams in Japanese” as they performed
music, an international language, with the
members of the Yamato cast.
Students of
the Medina Children’s Home try their hands
at “sticking” on the taiko drums.
The Kerrville
