KPAS Through the Years

The Cailloux Theater

The Kerrville Performing Arts Society boasts the record of 25 seasons for calling the Municipal Auditorium/Cailloux Theater “home”. There is no other performing arts organization in the City of Kerrville that has been incorporated for 25 years and has exclusively performed in this first rate facility in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The theater and its elegant lobby is the obvious choice for KPAS’ 25th Anniversary Celebration featuring the San Antonio Symphony on October 12th. [see associated press release]

The Vienna Choir Boys have performed in the KPAS series three times over the last 25 seasons … once in each decade. During their 1980 and 1990 performances, they sang in the old Municipal Auditorium, while their 2007 performance was in the renovated audition, The Kathleen C. Cailloux Theater.

Bon-Bons

In 2004, KPAS began the tradition of presenting the ballet, The Nutcracker, as a holiday highlight in the hill country. Professional ballet companies from Russia, Colorado, Texas, and California have delighted audiences at the Cailloux Theater with this ever-popular magical experience. Over 100+ local dancers have had the opportunity to be selected to perform with the professional troupes. Above, students performed as Bon-Bons while two of Kerrville’s most generous volunteers, Sue Steele and Leatrice Nixon, were recognized as Mother Ginger. For the 4th annual presentation in November 2009, KPAS will celebrate the official opening of the Christmas season by joining other Kerrville organizations for holiday festivities including the lighting of the Kerr County Courthouse, the Downtown Holiday Lighted Parade and the arrival of Santa Claus.

Javaier Chapparo and Eric Haffner 1987

Javier Chapparo of the Austin Symphony tells Eric Haffner about the parts of a violin during a demonstration conducted by Austin Symphony musicians in a 1987 Kerrville Performing Arts Society program. The entire Kerrville community became involved with this project in providing local children the opportunity to fully appreciate the miracle of making music; a gift that they would indeed carry into their adult lives.

The KPAS Guild Summertime Sale 1987

The KPAS Guild benefited from the sale of a new Cadillac, which was one of the silent auction items during the Summertime Sale ’87. The vehicle was donated to the group by Hill Country Motors and was sold to Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Allison. Pictured during the presentation of the keys were (left to right) Lorna Auld (Guild President), Eleanor Dozier, Cindy Huchtemann (Summertime Sale co-chairmen), Irene Allison, and Rick Howard, general sales manager for Hill Country Motors.
